An Authentic Taste of Italy at Margot, Covent Garden
Not many restaurants are named after the co-owner’s mother in law but Margot, Covent Garden isn’t your average place. Located on Great Queen Street away from the crowds, it’s in a handsome stone building. The brainchild of Paulo de Tarso and Nicolas Jaouën, it specializes in authentic, seasonal Italian cuisine.
As soon as we walked in, we noticed the friendly vibe and stylish decor. Designed by Fabled Studio, it’s a pleasing combination of circular shapes and subtle blue-green tones.
You know the nursery rhyme, “10 Green Bottles hanging on the wall”" Well here, there are a whole host of bottles adorning the staircase that leads down to the private dining room and bar.
We were invited to sample Margot’s recently launched Italian brunch and regular readers will know that I’m a big fan of brunch. With unusual dishes like Italian lemon crepes with wild berries and mascarpone and fried eggs with burrata and finocchiona Toscana salami, it’s a welcome change from the usual brunch offerings. You might notice the daschund breadstick holder, a tribute to the original Margot who was much shorter than her husband and affectionately nicknamed dachshund by him! We kicked off our brunch with a couple of signature non-alcoholic cocktails recommended by our friendly waiter.
