Britain becomes luxury hotspot as US shoppers overtake China as fastest growing source of tourist sales for top-end brands
The booming British fashion scene has made the nation the ?go-to? destination for the world?s luxury shoppers.
The fifth annual UK Luxury Benchmark Study, compiled by industry group Walpole and research firm Wealth-X, revealed that US shoppers have overtaken China to become the fastest growing source of tourist sales in the UK for top-end brands.
The strength of the dollar against the pound and the euro has helped luxury names sell more to Americans, off-setting any slowdown from Chinese tourists.
After a successful London Fashion Week (pictured), which finished on Wednesday, the study revealed that 75 per cent of the top brands surveyed forecast a full-year sales boost. Madelaine Ollivier, analyst at Wealth-X, said: ?We see the UK and London retaining its status as the ?go-to? luxury hub for the world?s wealthy.
The central location of the UK and its attractive business and fiscal environment ? barring a potential exit from the EU ? continues to appeal to a diverse cross-section of nationalities.?
London is still the country?s luxury hot spot, but the North-West is listed as a growing region for the sector.
