Shanghai Disney Resort will host a grand opening celebration on June 16th, welcoming its first official guests and becoming the first Disney destination on mainland China. Estimated at $5.5 billion, the Shanghai Disney Resort is a joint venture between the Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group, a state-owned organization with a 57% ownership in the new Disney venture.?When it opens in June, Shanghai Disney resort will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese,? said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company. ?The resort reflects Disney?s legendary storytelling along with China?s rich culture, and showcases some of the most creative and innovative experiences we?ve ever created.
