While it may still be hard to believe for many people, self driving cars are certainly on their way to becoming a standardized technology used by consumers and businesses all over the world. In fact, according to Business Insider, there will be at least 10 million self driven cars on roadways by as soon as 2020.
The technology is not only impressive. It also has many significant implications for the future of civilization and people?s daily lives. Certain things will change forever as a result. Below are five different things that will probably become obsolete once self-driving cars become standard.
1. Valets
Visiting a fancy restaurant or staying at a high end resort usually requires having cash on hand to tip a valet to park your vehicle. Unfortunately for valets, they may have to look for a new line of work in the future. One function that will certainly be designed into the self-driving cars of the future is the ability of the car to park itself. It will drop off the passengers at their destination, park on its own and power off. When the passengers need to be picked up, the car will power back on and drive to them. This of course does not answer the question of what happens when no parking spot is available. However, it?s likely such a car will know how to find a parking spot in another location to compensate.
