Luxury Smartwatches" Whatever….INFOGRAPHIC
Any professional marketer or carnival barker will tell you that people love things that are neat and are more than willing to shell out cash for the latest neat thing. Right now, the neatest thing out there is also the most debated: smartwatches. Now, there is no debate that smartwatches are amazing and clever and fun to use etc etc. But what’s getting people annoyed (especially luxury people), is when smartwatches call themselves luxury watches.
Apple did just that with their segment busting Apple Watch. Declaring it a luxury item and with a price range of the recently reduced $300 to over $15,000, Apple has tried to position it smartwatch as the must-have luxury fashion accessory. Hey, you can even get a Hermes edition that really screams luxury. In spite of all the hype and luxury, Apple is not so quick to release sales numbers but the recent price reduction of the ‘base’ Watch might be a clue.
Feeling insulted and violated, many luxury brands have followed suit with their own smartwatches such as Michael Kors, which recently unveiled new smartwatch models at Baselworld and Tag Heuer, whose Connected smartwatch is already sold out.
