With some 38,000 residents spread over less than one square-mile, the city-state of Monaco is the most densely populated country in the world.
But intrepid developers with a vision for new luxury apartments may have found a creative solution to their land shortage: build into the sea.
Authorities from Bouygues Construction are planning a ??1-billion luxury development in the Mediterranean Sea along the coast of the Riviera principality. The nearly 15-acre complex is set to feature a marina, public parks, a Japanese garden, a seaside promenade, and several blocks of luxury apartments.

The development will be constructed by filling 85-foot tall watertight chambers filled with some 11,000 tons of cement, Global Construction Review reported. These chambers, also called caissons, are often used for construction of piers and other sea projects.
Monaco is perhaps best known to visitors for its casinos, tax havens and of course, the U.S.? own starlet, Grace Kelly who became princess of the principality after marrying Prince Rainier III in 1956.
