Monaco?s Hotel de Paris: refurbishment reaches grand finale
Monaco is a name that conjures up images of opulence and glamour, and few places epitomise this more than the legendary H么tel de Paris. Refurbishment work on the luxury hotel began in 2014. The hotel has revealed the transformations in stages, with the grand finale ? the unveiling of the spectacular new Prince Rainier III suite聽 ? set to take place at the end of January 2019.
A glorious past
If you?ve never stepped into the H么tel de Paris, which stands at a right-angle to the most iconic Monaco property, the Monte Carlo Casino, you?ve certainly seen in on a screen.
The hotel, which has hosted a multitude of celebrities over more than 150 years, has featured in several films, including James Bond gems Never Say Never Again (1983) and Golden Eye (1995). The lavish Belle Epoque style hotel, with its sumptuous lobby, marble colonnades and crystal chandeliers, was inaugurated in 1864 by Prince Charles III of Monaco. Its construction was part of the Principality?s development by the Soci茅t茅 des Bains de Mer (SBM), the company that still owns numerous hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues in Monaco. SBM founder Fran莽ois Blanc dreamed of giving discerning clients ?a hotel that surpasses everything?.
The recent H么tel de Paris refurbishments are not the first. The hotel was renovated in 1878, 1910 and 1950.
