Running away with the circus is now a luxury experience

I’ll be totally honest, when the girlfriend suggest that we go to the circus, overpriced cotton candy and suppressed animal rights were the first things to come to mind. As I found out, my impressions of circuses were severely outdated.
The girlfriend was actually referring to the internationally acclaimed Cirque du Soleil and the Toronto stop on its new Luzia tour.
Cirque du Soleil does not disappoint with this new show and pulls out all the stops with death defying acrobatics, stunning costumes and dancing, incredible visuals and waterfall features that will literally leave you breathless.
So I did not find any caged tigers, elephant trains or a ringmaster. But driving up, I was greeted to a big top tent which was comforting. The smaller tents all housed concessions and merchandise but there was definitely a circus like atmosphere in this place. Credit: Doron Levy
I was on the edge of my seat for most of the show and knew I was in for a pulse pounding experience as Luzia opened up with a trapeze artist ‘skydiving’ on to the rotating circular stage. When it comes to engaging the audience, Cirque literally grabs hold of you and will not let go.
Luzia is ‘freely inspired by Mexico’ and embraces aspects of the country’s cultural heritage, natural elements and of course, the music. A sexy Spanish soundtrack provides the audio backdrop and certain acts featured a vocalist whose songs brought down the house. The music drove ...
