Samsung ‘Odyssey’ G9 – Curved Ultrawide Gaming Monitor
A year after Samsung unveiled its Odyssey gaming laptop at CES 2019, the South Korean conglomerate has now revealed the latest addition to its gaming-focused hardware with the launch of two new curved Odyssey monitors. Dubbed the G9 and G7, the former item packs an industry-leading 49″ display, while the latter is offered in 27″ and 32″ variants.
Both models benefit from Samsung’s QLED tech and feature a 1000R curvature which offers approximately the same field of vision as the human eye. While Samsung has previously offered monitors that boast HDR1000 and 5120×1140 resolution, the G9 is being touted as the first screen of its size to get a 240Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time ? twice the refresh rate of the tech and gadget powerhouse’s outgoing model. Both the G7 and G9 are compatible with AMD’s FreeSync 2 and NVIDIA G-Sync, too.
Aside from the size and color, the only real difference between the G9 and G7 is their HDR ratings, which are 600 and 1000 respectively. And on top of their cutting-edge specs, these curved monitors are made all the more impressive by their sleek industrial design, with the back of the screen sporting what Samsung calls a “futuristic infinity core lighting glowing rear core” ? an Arc Reactor-esque setup that offers five lighting effect options and more than 50 colors. Samsung is expected to reveal pricing and further info in the near future.
