Sometimes the most exciting thing about an auction is not knowing who the buyer will be. Stone Ridge, in Concord, Virginia, a massive retreat on 2,500 acres of rolling green hills could be a tycoon’s lair, a corporate retreat, or a family compound. The future will come to pass when Stone Ridge is auctioned off on September 8 by Concierge Auctions.The property includes a  22,000-square-foot main house with six bedrooms, five full bathrooms and three half-baths. The property has a long history of illustrious ownership, starting in the 1790s when one of George Washington’s loyal captains was awarded the land by the government. As the News & Advance reports, the main house was first built from stone quarried directly from the property.The home passed through several families until Kirk and Janet Dance bought it in 1985. They not only restored the manor house,  they also purchased surrounding land that had once been associated with the estate, and gave the home the name Stone Ridge for the rocky outcroppings near the manor house.The main home has been updated with a t...
