Is Elon Musk a diabolical billionaire bent on world domination or a really great businessman who understands what his customers want" Some will say the former but there is no doubt that Mr. Musk fully understands consumer mentality when it comes to cars: We want shiny things that go really fast.
Things that go really fast usually need gas which society has taught us is very bad for mother nature. Other car companies have taught and us that anything on four wheels that doesn’t use gas is probably really slow, won’t go very far and is definitely not fun.
Musk introduced Tesla’s flagship Model S in 2012 and has steadily been upgrading the various systems including unleashing ‘Ludicrous Mode’ which propels the non-gasoline car to 60 miles per hour in a blistering 2.9 seconds. That’s really fast even by gasoline standards. While Elon Musk may or may not have world domination on the planning table, he does have car domination on the table and recently launched the Model S P100D with an upgraded battery pack that sends this car to 60 mph in…wait for it…2.7 seconds.
That puts this particular Model S behind Ferrari’s LaFerrari and Porsche’s 918 Spyder.
And since both of those models are no longer available to be purchased new, that technically makes the P100D the fastest production car available on the market. And yes, it is available at a dealer near you.
