Tesla electrifies Europe but the details are revealing
No matter if it is SpaceX, Hyper Loop or the amazing Tesla car, Elon Musk dominates the business and science news pages these days but what is more interesting is Tesla’s dominance in the luxury market. A fairly new brand, Tesla recently achieved the honor of being the best selling luxury car in North America. Note that the word electric is missing from the previous sentence so the field is wide with gas, diesel, hybrid and fully electric luxury and super luxury cars.
Having whipped range anxiety and performance anxiety issues facing the industry with the super efficient Model S and its performance variants, Tesla now hopes to win the ultra lucrative mid range sedan market with a $35,000 car with an almost 300 mile range. The key to this ‘value’ proposition is the included Tesla experience. When all the pre-orders are delivered, Tesla will realize revenue of $10 Billion. That’s a lot of early adopters willing to commit to a car that has not been built nor will be delivered until 2017. Brand equity" Tesla has whipped that too.
Not to be outdone by North Americans, Europeans are now falling for the Tesla Model S mystique and crowned it the best selling luxury car in Europe. Again, no electric anywhere in that previous sentence.
