THE BLACKBOOK: Ferrari’s Enzo super car commemorates F1 win
Ferrari had F1 success in the new millennium and sought to build a car that would honor the wins. It’s first super car of the 21st century had to be special and engineers pushed the envelope in translating its racing technology into a street legal, track ready high performance machine.
Enzo Ferrari’s main passion was racing and the aptly named Enzo super car would have done the founder proud. The world was teased in Paris in 2002 as Ferrari showed off the only production model.
Existing Ferrari customers were invited to purchase this limited run car and all 399 models were sold before production started. Limited numbers and its race bred technology ensures the Enzo’s desirability as a must-have Ferrari.
Enzo’s are outfitted with a 6.0L V12 that produces 651 horsepower and 485 ft lb of torque. One of the most defining experiences of owning a Ferrari is enjoying the extensively tuned exhaust note and the Enzo delivers at all ranges. The transmission is still high tech by today’s standards and is derived from Ferrari’s own F1 electrohydraulic shift transmission or F1 gearbox. This setup uses F1 style paddles and indicator systems to alert the driver for the best possible shift depending on driving mode. No clutch allows for computer controlled shifts as fast as 150 milliseconds.
