The Week in Luxury Cars: The Geneva Motor Show, Porsche’s 718 Boxster S, and The Skinny on Self-Driving Cars
From the Geneva Car Show to the future of self-driving vehicles, here?s this week?s luxury auto dispatch in a nutshell.
Developed in collaboration with VW?s Chinese partner SAIC Volkswagen, the series? flagship model offers 297 horsepower and a camera-based night-vision system, among other high-tech features. A plug-in hybrid is also in the works.

And Porsche?s 500-horsepower 911 R managed to make quite a splash, despite being the lightest road-going model in its series. ?The new 911 R is for purists who seek an unfiltered driving experience,? Mark Ewing wrote. ?R is not for drones playing with their tablets.? Armed with the same 4.0-liter engine as the 911 GT3 RS, the 500-horsepower, 3,201-pound car hits 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.
The Ferrari GTC4Lusso, McLaren 570 GT, Aston Martin DB11, and Lamborghini Centenario were also among the show?s sexiest, most expensive, and fastest showcased.
The 680-horsepower GTC4Lusso hits 60 mph in 3.4 seconds.
But sleek sports cars weren?t the only showstoppers, with an unusually large number of luxury sports utility vehicles in this year?s lineup. While Maserati revealed its first-ever SUV, The Levante, Audi introduced the Q2?a more youthful design meant to attract millennials.
