The big news is that a new Tesla is coming out. The bigger news is that the ‘cheaper’ Tesla is still considered a luxury car. Tesla has evolved (or morphed as some would suggest) from an innovative electric car company to one of the most coveted luxury brands on the market. Recently, the Model S was named the best selling luxury car in North America. Range anxiety is no longer an issue for the Tesla brand name as this article (see below) from the Globe & Mail covering the Tesla Model 3 launch would suggest. Sometimes, brand equity and cachet is what defines consumer perception and price can become secondary. It will be interesting to see what develops for Tesla as they expand their product line to cover a wider swath of incomes and demographics.
