Why the wristwatch is an enduring luxury in the digital age
Take a look at your wrist and what do you see" Is there anything there" While many people may indeed see a watch adorning their wrist, it?s safe to say that an increasing number will see absolutely nothing.
And this won?t always have been the case. At one point, wristwatches were considered an essential accessory that it was unusual to be without. In this excellent article on the history of the watch, you can see how they became a must-have for pretty much everyone.
But, of course, things change, and naturally so has the watch and its role in our lives. They?ve become glow in the dark, waterproof, kinetic, and now electronic and synced with our phones, but what?s also changed is that fewer of us wear them.
We can check the time in so many places now, whether that?s on our phones or the corner of our computer screens, meaning that for many a watch has simply become unnecessary. Despite this trend, there are a passionate bunch out there who very much believe that the wristwatch is as essential now as it?s ever been, that?s so much more of just a way to tell the time.
