Konstantin Chaykin Reveals World?s Thinnest Watch Prototype at Geneva Watch Days
At Geneva Watch Days, Russian independent watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin captured attention with the unveiling of the ThinKing Prototype, which is being heralded as potentially the world’s thinnest mechanical wristwatch at just 1.65mm in thickness – even thinner than 1.75mm Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari. This groundbreaking prototype is a major development in the competitive world of ultra-thin watchmaking, challenging previous records and setting a new benchmark.
The ThinKing Prototype is not only remarkable for its slim profile but also for its innovative features and design. The dial, inspired by the brand’s Wristmon collection, presents a playful, face-like layout with hour and minute displays that resemble eyes, and a smile formed by the engraved brand name on the case front. The case, crafted from heat-treated high-hardness stainless steel, measures 40mm and weighs only 13.3 grams without its strap.
Technical innovations in the ThinKing are extensive, including the new K.23-0 movement which is integrated directly into the case. This design approach eliminates the need for additional space and contributes to the watch’s ultra-thin profile. The movement is manually wound, operates with a Swiss lever escapement, and includes a single ultra-thin winding barrel alongside a double balance system with a geared clutch. Remarkably, the entire watch is thinner than an American nickel.
